The second leg of the triple crown will be held this weekend and if you are having a Preakness Party here is the recipe for the official beverage:
The Black-eyed Susan
2 parts bourbon
1 part vodka citrus
3 parts sweet & sour mix
1 part orange juice
garnish with orange and cocktail cherry
Black-eyed Susans are also the official flower of the race that’s held two weeks after the Kentucky Derby and run at a distance of a mile and 3/16. A garland of the flowers will be draped over the winning thoroughbred. The Preakness Stakes which is run at Baltimore, Maryland’s Pimlico Race Track is the second leg of the three legs to the Triple Crown of horse racing. It is also the second largest live draw of all horse races throughout the year next to the Kentucky Derby.
So settle in Saturday the 21st of May to have a cold Black-eyed Susan, sing Maryland, My Maryland and maybe watch Animal Kingdom win his chance to be the first horse since Affirmed in 1978 (that’s 33 years, my friend!) to win the Triple Crown. Don’t forget to check out The Track Philosopher‘s Pick of the 136th running of the Preakness Stakes.
